Avondale College students have received 47 NZ scholarships, including 3 Outstanding Scholarships
Outstanding Scholar Award (Seivin Kim)
Two students gained 7 Scholarships (Seivin Kim and Baraa Zara)
Yi Feng Chen gained an Outstanding Scholarship in Calculus – while in Year 12

24 students achieved NZ Scholarships

Avondale College students have been awarded a record number of 47 NZ Scholarships including three Outstanding Scholarships and an Outstanding Scholar award following their success in the 2024 NZ Scholarship examinations.

This is four more than the previous year’s total of 43 and 17 more than in 2022. The Scholarships were awarded across thirteen different subjects.

NZ Scholarship is regarded as the most challenging assessment available to secondary school students and provides recognition and monetary rewards to around the top 3% of students in New Zealand.

Avondale’s Cambridge Dux for 2024, Seivin Kim, gained an astonishing seven NZ Scholarships including two (for Biology and Calculus) at Outstanding Level. Additionally, she has earned an Outstanding Scholar Award in recognition of her high achievement across multiple subjects.

Baraa Zara also gained seven NZ Scholarships – in Calculus, Chemistry, Classical Studies, English, History, Physics and Statistics.

Gaining one of Avondale’s three Outstanding scholarships was Yi Feng Chen for Calculus – while still in Year 12.

Joyce Ziyuan Zhuang gained four Scholarships in English, Chemistry, Biology and Statistics.

Notably three scholarships were gained by Year 11 students, with two going to Rudra Patel (Statistics and Calculus) and one to Thavanesh Thevar also in Calculus. Five scholarships were awarded to students in Year 12.
