Avcol students off to London with the national Young Shakespeare Company

Two Year 13 Drama students from Avondale College will be heading to London next year, as part of the Shakespeare Globe Centre New Zealand's Young Shakespeare Company (YSC).

Carys Chacko and Tessa Smith were chosen to be part of the prestigious company following their selection for the 2024 SGCNZ National Shakespeare Schools Production held in Dunedin in September/October.

Carys and Tessa say that being part of the YSC has been a goal for several years and that they feel honoured to have finally been selected.

"We attended the National Shakespeare Schools Production in Dunedin in the school holidays, and it was phenomenal; a truly lifechanging experience - and YSC in London will be even grander."

"It will be an enriching experience where we will learn from the best in the industry and develop our skills and grow as people. We are grateful to be given this opportunity by SGCNZ and are eagerly anticipating our trip."

As part of the 24-strong Young Shakespeare Company, Tessa and Carys will attend workshops and put on a performance at London's Globe Theatre next year.
