Bronze medal in NZ Mathematical Olympiad!

Year 11 student Thavanesh Thevar has won a Bronze medal in the second round of the New Zealand Mathematics Olympiad (NZMO)!

Thavanesh joins a handful of other New Zealand secondary school students who were awarded medals for their efforts in the three-hour nationwide examination.

This was the second round of competition for the NZMO, involving students who achieved high scores in the first round of testing earlier in the year.

Four Avondale College students - Thavenesh, Fengfeng Chen, Rudra Patel and Shrihan Bobbala - qualified for this second round of competition, which is an outstanding achievement in itself, says Avondale College's Director of Maths, Mr Zamm Mazid.

"The NZMO is one of the most challenging and prestigious maths competitions in New Zealand. For four of our students to qualify for the second round of competition, and for Thavenesh to be awarded a bronze medal is an amazing achievement."

The New Zealand Mathematical Olympiad Committee was established in 1986 and provides mathematics extension activities for high school students, culminating in the selection and training of New Zealand’s team for the International Mathematical Olympiad.Bronze medal in NZ Mathematical Olympiad!
