Cambridge: 11 Outstanding Learning Awards for Avondale College students!

  • 11 Outstanding Learning Awards including:

  • 2 Top in the World Information Technology (A Level) & Mathematics (IGCSE)

  • Best across five subjects (IGCSE) - 1st Place in NZ (June series)

  • Best across three subjects (A Level) - 1st Place in NZ (November series)

  • Top in NZ - Physics (A Level); Spanish (IGCSE)

  • High Achievement - Information Technology (AS Level); Mathematics; Biology; Chemistry; Physics (IGCSE)

  • NZ’s top students in Information Technology at both AS and A Level

 



Avondale College has once again produced some of the best-performing learners in New Zealand and around the world in the Cambridge International examinations in 2024.


Two students achieved the highest standard mark in the world. Mia Horvath (for the second year running) came top in the world in Information Technology, this time at A Level. She had also come first in the world in IT at AS level in 2023 and first in New Zealand in 2022.


For the second year in a row, an Avondale College student topped the world in the Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics exam. Renish Shah came top in the world with a perfect 100% score. This achievement is even more notable given Renish was in Year 10.


Seivin Kim, who has featured in the Outstanding Learning awards every year since she came top in the World in IGCSE mathematics as a Year 10 student in 2021, finished her secondary schooling on a high note being awarded the ‘Best Across Three’ award for highest cumulative total standard marks in New Zealand at A Level. Seivin also came Top in New Zealand in A Level Physics.


Jabir Pathan in Year 12 was awarded the prestigious ‘Best Across Five’ award for his achievements in the June 2024 examination series. He attained the highest cumulative total standard marks in New Zealand gaining High Achievement awards in IGCSE Mathematics Biology Chemistry and Physics.


Further to Avondale’s ongoing success in Information Technology, Abraham Deng in Year 12 gained a High Achievement Award in Information Technology at AS level.

Magali Gonzalez Mancebo in Year 11 came Top in New Zealand in IGCSE Spanish.

Last year more than 2 million students sat Cambridge examinations in more than 10,000 schools in countries around the world including the United Kingdom United States China India and Singapore as well as throughout Europe South America and the Middle East.


Our students’ success was recognised and celebrated at the New Zealand Cambridge Outstanding Learners Awards ceremony on Thursday 20 February.
