Avondale College's Gospel Choir are heading to Wellington on Thursday this week to take part in the Big Sing Finale 2024, at the Michael Fowler Centre. The choral competition sees the very best choirs from around New Zealand take part in the three-day event.
This is the first time Avondale's Gospel Choir has been invited to participate, and it follows their success at the Auckland Big Sing earlier this year, where they also came runners up for the Leo Pasifika Award for Best Performance of a Single Work Using a Text in a Pacific Language
Led by Choir Directors Mrs Fredda Sorensen and Seumanu Simon Matafai, the 29-strong choir are excited about the upcoming competition and the opportunity to perform alongside New Zealand's top 23 secondary school choirs.
Their involvement has also captured the attention of New Zealand media, with a reporter and videographer from RNZ visiting the school on Tuesday to film the choir and record interviews with students and staff.
