Gospel Choir shines at Big Sing Finale

The Avondale College Gospel Choir made a stellar debut at The Big Sing National Finale, one of just 24 choirs selected from 250 nationwide. The event, held over three days in Wellington, featured two recitals from each choir, with performances required to showcase a range of styles, genres, and moods.

The choir, competing for the first time in the finale, impressed judges with their diverse programme and was awarded Silver. However, due to a time penalty this was downgraded to Bronze. Their repertoire included New Zealand compositions, choral art music, and open choice pieces.

Adding to their success, the choir performed at the New Zealand Parliament, where they were praised by Rachel Boyak, MP for Nelson, and the Honourable Paul Goldsmith, Minister for Arts.

The choir’s achievement reflects their dedication and hard work, marking a significant milestone in their musical journey. As they return to Avondale College, they do so with a sense of pride and anticipation for future endeavours.
