It was with great sadness that we learned this week that a member of our staff, Mr Phil Hill, had passed away.
Mr Hill has been a teacher for over 50 years, 35 of which have been at Avondale College. He was one of our Deputy Principals for almost 30 years, and continued to teach Year 13 Psychology at our school.
Mr Hill was an expert teacher, who introduced Psychology to our school, and was the national leader of his subject across New Zealand for many years. He began his career at Avondale College as a guidance counsellor and had an unwavering commitment to the wellbeing and success of young people, which was a key driver for him as an educational leader.
All four of Mr Hill’s children attended Avondale College, and our thoughts are with them at this time, along with his grandchildren, wider family and friends.
Kohia ngā Taikākā.
A celebration of the life of Phil Hill will be held on Thursday 28 April 2022 at 1pm at Avondale College Performing Arts Centre (PAC), 51 Victor Street, Avondale.

The family have requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made towards establishing an annual scholarship that will be awarded to the student that receives the Phil Hill Memorial Trophy for Creativity.
