In January some of our student leaders and Mr Charis Eneliko joined the 200 students gathered for the ASB Polyfest Student Leaders' Conference ahead of this year's 50th anniversary. The students took part in various workshops over the two days that focused on themes of Mana (pride), Mafana (joy), and Wairua (spirit).
Attending the 2025 Polyfest Leaders Conference was an incredible experience, says Mr Charis Eneliko, Avondale's TIC of the Samoan Group.
"It was inspiring to work alongside leaders from different schools and backgrounds, all coming together to celebrate and strengthen our cultural heritage. Throughout the day, students engaged in various workshops that helped them explore their identities and gain a deeper understanding of themselves. The activities were both fun and meaningful, allowing everyone to connect on a personal level. I was also interviewed about the significance of Polyfest, where I shared that it plays a vital role in helping second- and third-generation Polynesian students reconnect with their roots. Through performing arts—singing, dancing, and storytelling—students embrace their culture and honour their ancestors. Overall, it was a wonderful and enriching experience, reinforcing the importance of cultural pride and unity."
