Avondale College's Premier Netball team fought their way to the finals of the NZ Secondary Schools Netball Tournament in Christchurch last week, coming away with a second-place podium finish after losing to Howick College by just one point.

SILVER AT NZSS NETBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS (By Priscilla Rasmussen, Premier Netball Captain)

Last week, the Premier Netball team travelled to Christchurch with our amazing families for support. Competing against the top 15 netball schools nationwide, we finished as the second-best team in the country! Six players returned from last year’s squad, providing valuable experience for our newcomers.

We went unbeaten in pool play, topped our crossover pool, and reached the National final for the second consecutive year, facing a strong Howick College team. The final was a thrilling match, going goal for goal, but we ended with a narrow one-point loss, 33-32, finishing as silver medallists.

While it wasn’t the outcome we hoped for, our team gained invaluable experiences, playing with heart and passion. Special thanks to our departing Year 13s—Jonni, Lilly, Grace, Amarnie, Jennayah, and Rhienen—for their contributions to our netball legacy. Achieving third, second, and first in the country over the past three years is a remarkable feat, and the culture we've built will endure. I’d also like to thank the school for their support and opportunities this season. The netball pathway at Avondale is strong, and I’m excited for the future talent and titles ahead!
