TAUREWA CAMP
For many students, going on camp is one of the highlights of their Avondale College experience! We are fortunate in being able to offer students the opportunity to attend Taurewa, our outdoor education camp situated on the edge of the World Heritage Site of the Tongariro National Park.
At Taurewa, students are able to participate in a great variety of outdoor activities which, depending on the season, can include tramping, rafting on the Tongariro River, rock-climbing, kayaking, ropes course, skiing, mountain biking and more.
All students in Year 10 attend with their home room class, and further camps are offered to students in Years 12 and 13. The groups are accompanied by teachers and parents, and activities are led by outdoor education specialists.
INFORMATION FOR YEAR 10 CAMPS
It is an expectation of Avondale College that all Year 10 students attend the Taurewa Outdoor Education Camp with their home room. Taurewa is located on the northern side of Tongariro National Park and you will have the opportunity to be adventurous and challenged. You can mountain bike in Term 2 and ski in the winter in Term 3. Depending on the weather you will also do a variety of activities like low ropes courses, hot pools and explore some of the National Park's hidden trails and breath-taking views. As well, you get to create one of the most memorable moments in your lives, forge friendships and strengthen the ones you have.
Families are welcome to begin making payments towards the full cost of camp earlier via our payment portal on Family Connection, by internet banking (using your family code and TAUREWA in the reference details) or to the College Shop.
